The Sony SLV-SE220 Video Recorder is an entry-level 2-head mono VCR that combines market-leading performance characteristics with stylish design and ease of use. The Sony Smart Engine VCR family has consistently been recognised as among the best VCRs with respect to ease of use, picture quality and durability. This model adds another level of recorded picture quality in the form of proprietary Smart Trilogic technology. This advanced processing system ensures optimum picture quality during playback as the VCR automatically adjusts sharpness based on recording quality and tape condition. This new circuitry monitors playback according to three parameters: it detects noise level, adjust sharpness and emphasises detail to maintain a uniformly high quality image on the television screen.

User friendliness, durability and recording reliability are assured with the new recorder. Video Plus and PDC make setting the program timer a breeze. The implementation of Sony's Mecha Deck operating system provides a real support for the new recorders Smart Engine operation. This advanced engineering provides Flash Rewind as well, rewinding/forwarding an E180 tape in just 60 seconds. Another enhancement found in this model is a permanent back-up facility which saves all tuner and channel information, together with timer recording data in the event of a power failure. The same system restores clock information to the VCR within five seconds of being restored, even in standby mode.
