Having now graduated from the new BSc Social Work Degree I am offering my own written work to help guide you.

This Dissertation is 10,000 and includes a literature review.

Academic mark received: 79% (first)

The title is: To what extent should social work practice be informed by social research?

It contains a critical analysis of social research using a literature review in which to analyse. It's main focus is on the outcomes of adoption; analysing research based upon age at time of permanence, inter-racial adoption and special needs / disability and, of course, the evaluation of the effectiveness of social research in social work.

The dissertation is in three parts;
 
Part 1 - consists of an introduction looking at various forms of research methods (qualitative, quantitative) and how they inform research findings. It also contains a literature review of approx 40 pieces of research and critically evaluates methods used. The literature review is sectioned into finding based upon age, interacial matches and special needs. (2860 words)
 
Part 2 - concentrates on qualititative research and homes in particularly on the research finding of Romanian orphans adopted into the Uk. This considers Rutter's hypothesis that romanian children who suffer maternal deprivation endure lifelong problems i.e autistic spectrum disorders and evaluates that in comparison with research findings that argue this is not actually the case. It then goes on to answer 10 questions (CASP questionaire)
 
CASP consists of ten questions that are designed to help make sense of qualitative research. Since 1993 ‘..the programme has helped to develop an evidence-based approach in health and social care’(CASP 2006).
 
These include:
 
1.  Was there a clear statement of the aims of the research?
2.  Is a qualitative methodology appropriate?
 
3.  Was the research design appropriate to address the aims of the research?
 
4.  Was the recruitment strategy appropriate to the aims of the research?
 
5.  Were the data collected in a way that addressed the research issue?
 
6.  Has the relationship between researcher and participants been adequately considered?
 
7.  Have ethical issues been taken into consideration?
 
8.  Was the data analysis sufficiently rigorous?
 
9.  Is there a clear statement of findings?
 
10.  How valuable is the research?
