…… Measuring only 18 inches wide by 37 ½ inches long by 18 ½ inches tall, this early 17th century Jacobean Chest is a nice small usable size. This chest was meant for heavy use. The dovetailed corners are exceptional and there are three large hand wrought iron snipe inches, with long tails. The hinges seem to be too large for such a small chest. Inside is the original till & cover with a nicely shaped cut out bottom. At this early 17th century just is in very good, strong condition with no odors and can be easily used in your home. Over the years there have been a few very old restorations. The original bottom as a shrinkage crack, and a small 2 inch wide piece was added to the front edge as well as to cross cleats. You can see this in my close up photographs. Also there are old small patches added across both curved sides of the top, and one at the top of the swing latch. On the other side I can see the original hand wrought iron nails. The only other problem I could find was one tail on the left-hand snipe hinge, which has been missing for many, many years. The rest of this early Jacobean Chest is in remarkable original condition and there are no post-beetle holes.
