Contrary to the terribly misinformed modern entertainment industry, the pentagram, or five pointed star, has no traditional conotations of evil! In fact, it and has long been used as a potent protection symbol against evil, shielding the wearer & their home and property.

The five points of the Star have over the eons represented the elements, four of matter (earth, air, fire and water) and one of Spirit (God, Goddess, the All, etc). The points have also been associated with our five human senses, The physical form ( two arms, two legs, and a head, or "Mind over Matter", or the Vitruvian Man of Leonardo Di Vinci), the five wounds of Christ, the five pillars of the Muslim faith and their five daily times of prayer, and the five virtues of the medieval knight - generosity, courtesy, chastity, chivalry and piety.

The pentagram is an ancient symbol, rich in meaning, and has been used by almost every faith from Christianity to modern Neo-Pagans and Wicca. Perhaps the misbelief of its symbolising evil came from the common use of the Pentagram with its uppermost point pointing upwards to mean the Summer or growing season of the year, and with its uppermost point pointing downward to represent the Winter or resting season!
