PAPUA TRIBAL ART

 

This tribal primitive cassowary claw necklace comes from Papua New Guinea; the thong is made from the wood from a Dalom tree.

The claw is old but re-strung, size approx 1" - 1.25".

 

The photo is a stock item, all the cassowary claw necklaces are very similar.


The cassowary bird from Papua (new Guinea) is not protected, its very prolific living in  thousands of acres of charted and uncharted forest. It is the most viscus bird in the world but very illusive. And is part of the natural tribal food chain, mainly eaten for ceremonial purposes.

These are traditionally warn to protect against evil spirits and bad luck
