 Swagger stick in light coloured wood. Cap is silver and hallmarked for Birmingham 1903/04. Could be makers initials of "MN" or "NN"

The regiment is the The Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) . The cap has the regiments badge of the Star of the Order of the Thistle with a bugle in the centre and within that the initails "HLI"   Below that the motto " ASSAYE".  Below that an elephant. The motto and th elephsant symbol were awarded by the Duke of Wellington in recognition of service at the battle of Assaye in 1803 . Below all of that is "3rd Vol Batt"
Stick 27 inches long. Metal ferrule on tip . In very good condition for its age
