Georgian Old Sheffield Plate Master Salts c1815

An impressively rare pair of George III period (c1815 or before) Old Sheffield Plate master salts.

Valuable pieces of early silver plating, there are no markings from which to attribute a maker - this is not unusual!
With applied floral beading to the outer edge which was normally die-stamped silver.
Supported at the base by four ball feet.
Presented in good condition which is considered commensurate with age and designed use: See below for more details and definitions.
Dated by the style of border decoration to c1815, but they may be slightly older!

Length 9.6cm (3¾"  )
Width 7.4cm (3"  )
Height 3.2cm (1¼"  )

In arguably good but used condition commensurate with estimated age.
There are no dents!

There is no loss of silver cover externally!
Both have numerous pit marks internally, the corrosive action of the salt they once contained has taken its toll!
Considering the age of these very rare pieces, I believe such issues must reasonably be expected.

Because of the pitting issue mentioned above a reasonably low starting bid has been set, with no other reserve.
Make no mistake, this wonderful pair will sell to the highest bidder.
Make sure its you!

All Silver plate and other metal pieces in my listings are of some age and generally have been used for the purpose for which they were made.
For clarity within my listings the grading definitions I use which best describe the external qualities of each piece are as follows:
(Internal condition will be listed on an individual basis)

Very Fine - Extremely good condition with no detrimental issues - rarely found on antiques outside of a museum!
Fine - Has signs of careful / respectful use with minimal surface scratches commensurate with age and such use.
Very Good - Has no dings of any real consequence, few scratches (no more than expected through normal usage), that are not unsightly.
Good - May have less than five minor dings and / or some scratching (more than normal usage) and / or minor pit marks, commensurate with long periods of use, but not considered too detrimental.
Fairly Good - May have numerous (+ five) minor dings and / or some plate thinning and other signs of prolonged use which may include deep scratches and patches of pit marks to the plating.
Reasonable - May have repairable / repaired dents or other issues and may / or will need replating, but is still of probable interest.
Anything considered less than reasonable will not be listed in my auctions!

I cannot guarantee the thickness of plating remaining. I strongly recommend that one uses a good quality silver cleaner sparingly. Once polished, the sheen can easily be maintained by simply washing in warm soapy water, and drying with a soft clean cloth immediately.

Any dating and period statements given are estimates only, depending on my experience with styles and information available within my vast documentation and other on-line sources.
I am only human and may sometimes, inadvertently get this wrong!
Where possible, exact dating will be confirmed by date markings or registered numbers where available.

All other curios and items of interest will be described individually and graded as I see them.
No Item I offer is deemed to be unfit for purpose, if it was, it would not be listed!

See my other listings for more great items!
