Basics About Silestone Countertops
Silestone is commonly
found in today's modern kitchens, bathrooms and bar areas. It is made
of non-porous materials and sometimes a layer of 'Microban' protection,
a trademarked material that prevents germs and bacteria from collecting
on the surface. Silestone countertops are made with quartz, a textured
and sturdy natural material that can be found in a range of colors.
They are usually homogenous in pattern and coloring, and speckled with
both large and small grains of quartz.
Silestone countertops are naturally stronger than granite
versions, and are very simple to install. They are less likely to chip
or crack over time, and the quartz construction offers a naturally
scratch-resistant surface. These countertops also do not need to be
sealed, and will rarely need to be replaced. Since they have a smooth
and protective surface, all it takes is a simple household cleaner to
remove stains and dirt.
Silestone is the world leader in quartz surfaces.
A unique stone that could only come from the combination of the best that nature has to offer and the most advanced technology. Silestone
has a sophisticated appearance; it has the feel and weight of natural
stone but with a much higher quality. Composed of at least 90%
inorganic components (essentially natural quartz and silicone),
Silestone can be used in the creation of the most beautiful kitchen
worktops or the most innovative commercial projects. Its colour
consistency is incomparable to any other natural stone. Silestone is a non-porous surface and very resistant to stains of coffee, wine, lemon juice, olive oil, vinegar, make-up and lot of products of daily use. There are only three natural stones (diamond, sapphire and topaz) harder than quartz. This makes that Silestone is high resistant to scratches. Taking in consideration the Mohs hardness scale, the position of the quartz is 7 (diamond is 10). Therefore, using the same knife in different surfaces, Silestone will not be scratched easily.
Silestone has great shock resistance, in most cases considerably higher than of other products used for similar applications (granite, solid surfaces, etc) which guarantees safety in the kitchen when handling very hard objects (pans, trays, etc).
This resistance is achieved thanks to its quartz (which gives it its hardness ) and poliéster resin (elasticity) and the vibrocompression system used during the production process
Silestone can be used for any in-door surface, even kitchen and bathroom worktops, stairs, panels, baths and around baths, floors, walls, bars, tables and desks...
