Before the summer of 2005, Andrew Flintoff had never experienced a test series against Australia.  By its end, his stunning performances with bat and ball had played a massive part in England regaining the Ashes.  Scoring 402 run at an average of 40.20, including a century at Trent Bridge, and taking 24 wickets at an average of 27.29, he won two man-of-the-matche awards and the Compton-Miller trophy for the overall best player of the 2005 Ashes.
