Shuriken Wielding Methods (Shuriken giho) - S. Chikatoshi. The book delves into the fascinating world of Japanese martial arts hidden and thrown weapons. This of course includes the so-called multi pointed Ninja stars, but includes many more fascinating configurations. This volume looks at several of the more prominent disciplines, or schools of Shuriken. Some shuriken are classified in a broad class of weapons known as Go sun or "Five sun" - rhymes with "spoon" - a sun being an ancient measure of approx 3.03cm. Sun has also come to have the rhetorical meaning of "small", or "few". The shuriken popularity in Japan comes partially from the belief that because of their small size, they can be wielded and mastered by even a relatively weak person. The writer regards shuriken wielding to be Saiko no Bujutsu - the supreme martial art. Their effectiveness against even a skilled swordsman is well known. The book presents a somewhat scientific approach to shuriken wielding with generous trajectory charts and throwing move step diagrams, yet at the same time endeavors to stay practical and useful with multitudes of pictures. This is a serious and intriguing review of an historic martial arts discipline. 240pgs - 5in x 7.5in Soft cover
