Shittim Plant Original Watercolour Painting by Winifred Walker (exh.1919-1934) This Painting was Published in All the Plants of the Bible at Page 174 A superb original watercolour painting by highly regarded botanical artist Winifred Walker. The painting is from Walker's All the Plants of the Bible series of paintings and was published in Walker's book of the same name along with text by Walker at page 174 (see photograph section). The series consisted of 113 watercolours, which were accompanied by fascinating facts and lore written by Walker, of every flower, fruit, tree, shrub and herb mentioned in the Bible. The painting is on high quality card and remains in very fine condition having been stored in a folio for the majority of it's life, the colours are therefore strong and well preserved and the card is fresh although with some minor discolouration to the very extremities. There is an inscription in Walker's hand upper right which identifies the plant and cites the reference to it in the Bible. The painting is signed lower right.
We currently have four originals from this series on eBay - all offered in no reserve auctions.

Art as an Investment In these uncertain financial times tangible assets such as gold and art are being recommended as a safer alternative to stocks and shares by many leading experts. “Companies go bust, artists don’t,” said David Douglas an Irish art expert of the recent economic turmoil. Damien Hirst's phenomenally successful sale at Sotheby's recently illustrates that high end art is able to prosper in an economic downturn. Less well publicised are the examples of the many thousands of lesser known artists whose work continues to increase in price when offered at auction.
