Ships Engine Room Telegraph repeater. This was salvaged by myself from a Philippine cargo vessel used as an Exocet missile practice target in the Far East some 20+ years ago, can't recall exact year. I have unfortunately misplaced the lever and inner workings before I returned home, lost in the cleaning tank if I recall, but the carcase and face plate are impressive as a mercantile relic (need a good clean again now) as well as extremely heavy, (a solid wall needed for any display).
The unit was made in the USA originally by Bendix in Brooklyn NY. The graduations are typically American being - Back (not Astern) 1/3, 2/3, Full....and Ahead (Stop)1/3, 2/3, Stand, Full, Flank. The latter Flank being Sprint Speed in other naval terminology, although why a cargo ship would have a sprint speed escapes me, I believe this therefore to be a standard US naval unit also diverted for commercial use during the wars.
All other items that were salvaged have been previously sold on E Bay over the past 3 years or so, as I came across old boxes in my garage that have never been unpacked since I came home 20 years ago...final clear out now however due to moving, and I do need to de clutter badly..
