Shearwater Pottery Hand-Painted Incised Sea-Bird Vase

This auction is for a great piece of Shearwater Pottery in outstanding condition. The vase measures 10 1/8” in height, 2 5/8” in diameter at the rim and 4 ¾” in diameter at the widest. The vase is hand thrown, hand incised and hand painted. It appears to be some sort of Sea Bird to me, though it's somewhat reminiscent of a Native American Thunderbird image as well. The vase has a large bird on the front and a smaller bird on the back with swirled clouds or waves between. The outlines are all incised into the clay through the first glaze Sgraffito style. It's gorgeous! The vase has no chips, nick, cracks or other damage. The interior has residue that feels like mud - I cleaned most of it out, but there's probably some left. Some might think they see chips or dents on the rim, it's just the way the paint is applied - there are no damages; ditto for the area at the base (shown in close-up) - its just a variation in the painting. The bottom is marked with the arched SHEARWATER as shown. I could find no initials or other indicators of which Shearwater artist did this vase and I don't have ample knowledge to attribute it to a particular one - the experts will know, I'm sure. Shipping:

Domestic customers have the option of USPS Priority Mail, USPS Parcel Post (the new best option for large packages) or UPS Ground Delivery. The shipping calculator below (scroll way down just above the bidding area) will give you the cost for each. You can choose your prefered shipping option when you check out.

 

Payment:

Payment should be received within 10 calendar days of auctions end.
Checks are fine but money orders are much quicker, we actually Prefer checks & MO's.
PayPal gladly accepted (international buyers see the IMPORTANT notice below).

Shipping & insurance fees are non-refundable.

IMPORTANT! - For payment via PayPal delivery MUST be trackable. The options for that are USPS Priority International and USPS Express Mail International. If you prefer delivery via First Class International (delivery time undetermined, not trackable and not guaranteed) youmay NOT pay via PayPal, you'll have to send an International Postal Money Order in US Funds or something similar. You can use the shipping calculator below to see the Priority Mail International and Express Mail International rates.

 

Insurance is available only for trackable packages i f you choose a less costly delivery method, the risk for loss and damage will be yours. It's extremely unlikely that your package would be lost or damaged (we pack very well)

but without tracking we can't accept responsibility.
