Shapland & Petter Art Nouveau Dressing Table Vanity

Description:
This is a beautiful original antique "Shapland and Petter" Art Nouveau ash, oak and walnut inlaid two door four drawer pedestal dressing table with a three-quarter length mirror.  A fabulous quality late 19th Century piece of furniture by "Shapland and Petter of Barnstaple" and retailed by "James Howell and Co. - Drapers and House Furnishers, St. Mary's Street, Cardiff".  The dressing table stands on its original brass and brown china castors, rising over which are the square taper moulded legs united by a scrolled shaped ash rail with two frieze drawers with original brass dropper handles bearing the maker's mark "C&A" with original escutcheon.  The locks are stamped "S&PB".  Rising above is a decorative moulding with reeded pilasters flanking either side and two doors with matched burr walnut veneers with oak cross-banding with boxwood and ebony stringing, matching the drawers, with a matched handle and shaped dropper and a single matched frieze drawer over.  There is a drop well centre with a raised boxwood and ebony strung gallery back.  There is a carved moulded mirror with a fabulous crest piece with a cushion moulding and carved centre section with boxwood and ebony stringing with a dentilated cornice.  Flanking are these beautifully carved mirror supports with turned urn finials and reeded pilasters.  The top has fine burl ash veneers to the tops of each of the pedestals and to the drop centre, with solid ash panels to the sides with ash mouldings.  The drawer linings are ash with dovetail joints.  All but one of the locks is stamped "S&PB".  A fabulous quality dressing table.

The There is a small piece of damage on the one escutcheon on the right hand drawer
