 This unusual plate is produced from opalescent glass. The opalescence is quite strong and shows up best through the thinner rib parts of the rim. Also around the border is a repeating moulded design which looks more Art Nouveau in style than the Art Deco period that this item comes from. The centre is printed with a depiction of the tower of Empire which was from the Scottish Empire Exhibition of 1938. The words souvenir that this item was purchased as a momento of this exhibition. Unfortunately there are no makers marks to allow attribution to the factory which made this piece. It is certainly of good quality and perhaps came from a Scottish or North English factory.
