Scottish Art: Vintage Seaside Scene, Old Ayr, Ayrshire

This is a really delightful depiction of Edwardian Ayr, in Ayrshire, Scotland by Scottish artist and sculptor Alan Lees.  It takes place on the green beside the shore, and the old 'Pavilion' which was built in 1911, features in the background. The picture is quite large at 20 inches by 24 inches, in acrylics on good quality canvas board, and depicts a typical Clyde coast seaside scene of the time, with many figures, including an ice cream seller, couples out walking, and children involved in a variety of pastimes, including 'gird and cleek', skipping, football etc. The Pavilion was rescued from demolition a few years ago, and is still there, as is the fountain! On a fine day Ayr shore is still quite busy, but doesn't present quite such an elegant scene!  Check out the Scottish Home's online blog for more information about these paintings, and the scenes that inspired them.

All pictures are unframed, unless stated otherwise in the listing. This, plus the fact that fees are reasonably low for online listings (unlike gallery fees, which tend to be rather high) all helps to keep our prices and postage to a minimum. The result of this is that you can buy a piece of original art for less than the price of a print. Offers are welcome but please do make them realistic - our prices are already low but some of these pieces are larger and more detailed than others. The creation of this one took a huge amount of time, which is reflected in the higher price.
