BIO of the Great Master:

The Spanish born artist, Salvador Dali (1904-1989) was without doubt one of the most inspirational and prolific artists of the twentieth century. From 1929 to 1937 he produced the paintings which made him the worlds best known Surrealist artist. In the late 1920s, two events brought about the development of his mature artistic style: his discovery of Sigmund Freud's writings on the erotic significance of subconscious imagery, and his affiliation with the Paris Surrealists, a group of artists and writers who sought to establish the "greater reality" of man's subconscious over his reason. To bring up images from his subconscious mind, Dali began to induce hallucinatory states in himself. He depicted a dream world in which commonplace objects are juxtaposed, deformed, or otherwise metamorphosed in a bizarre and irrational fashion. Dali portrayed these objects in meticulous, almost painfully realistic detail and usually placed them within bleak, sunlit landscapes that were reminiscent of his Catalonian homeland. The most famous and popular of these enigmatic images is "The Great Masturbator" (1929), "The Persistence of Memory" (1931), "Galatea of Spheres" (1952), and the "Milky Way" (1968). On January 23, 1989, Salvador Dali died in a hospital in Figueres from heart failure and respiratory complications. Salvador Dali is famous for his Surrealism. In his paintings, collects the subject-matter in the dream, meanwhile, different from other surrealism painters, he reates the feeling of true. It make us feel ilussioned but it is true.
