Poor wheel alignment can cause many problems with a car mainly being premature wear to your tyres.
The cost of this unnecessary wear can burn a hole in your pocket especialy if you are using high end quality tyres that can cost well in excess of £150 each.
Our wheel geometry system is used by many car manufacturers including Aston Martin, Ferrari, VW and Audi. We have adjusted many manufacturers' geometry at our premises which has included Porsche's & Mercedes AMG's as well as various track day/race cars.
This system is not comparible to your local garages simple "tracking" as it is far more comprehensive than that. Tracking is just the toe in/out of the front wheels (ie how pigeon toed they are) which can cause steering pull down a straight peice of road and obviously added tyre wear and lost fuel economy.
Our equipment looks at, among other things:
- Toe: Undoing of the track rods to adjust tracking (how far the wheels are pointing at each other from an above view
- Camber: Angle that the wheels are leaning out vertically on the road which is adjusted by movement of the sub frame and the suspension strut.
- Caster: is the angle of the suspension strut imagining a perfect vertical line with the measurement taken from the vertical to the actual angle of the strut. This again is adjusted by movement of the sub frame and strut.
- Setback: is the wheelbase of the car from front wheel to rear wheel, this is adjusted by movement of the relevant axels.
As you can imagine and see in the photocopied test sheet to the right there are many variables that can be wrong and it makes you think whether the cars are actualy 100% correct when they come out of the factory brand new...
The left column is the check before any adjustments are made, the middle is the tolerances it allows and the right is the final results
Alot of manufacturers say that many of their suspension settings and geometry cannot be adjusted however we have found in alot of cases we are able to get round this.
An example of this is the 900 classics rear wheel allignment. Saab say it isnt possible to adjust, however we have found a way to. |
|
Any job that includes removal of the sub frame or any suspension replacement or modification would be idealy suited to this check.
It isnt possible to get everything 100% perfect as each one can effect another reading however once this job has been carried out your car will feel alot more comfortable on the road, handle better round corners, give better and more even tyre wear and improve fuel ecconomy.
We have set up various cars for track days by giving a negative camber on the wheels for added cornering.
*The price above is for the basic first hour check and adjustment. If however we find that you need additional time/labour/parts then we recomend that you purchase an additional TSTT reduced hourly rate voucher from within our ebay shop whilst you are at our premises where you would be able to pay via credit card/debit card/paypal.
