SUPERB ANTIQUE FRENCH CHATEAU TAPESTRY PELMET late1800s

This is a superb antique French handworked pelmet panel that dates from the late 1800s. It is one of two from the same chateau location that I am listing so please Check out my other items for the matching piece.

This wonderful old textile originally was hung above a window but could now also be part of a bed canopy project or could be used as  a mantlepiece display or doorway display.

The panel is handworked in wool and the colours are amazing for its age. The pattern features scrolls and curls in rich autumn shades. The photographs are very accurate for the colours.

The top is trimmed with wide passementerie cord in coordinating shades with a plain silk twist coiled with a patterned rope.

The bottom edge carries a passementerie fringe, some of which is distressed with age. The sections that are good and strong could very easily be removed for another textile project and the pelmet would not look any less period or decorative without it.

The backing is an old yellow silky cotton that carries the chateau label.The bottom edge of the backing is open in places and the inner lining of sacking can be seen.

There are no missing stitches in the woolwork and the pelmet is good and strong.

The measurements are:

Width 6 feet 2" (188cms)

Depth not including the fringe 11" (28cms)

This is a superb period home embellishment that will grace any period interior.
