SUPERB 19thC SOLID BURR WALNUT SEWING JEWELLERY BOX

You are bidding on a very interesting item.It is a 19th Century Small FRENCH BURR WALNUT(I think-the same wood as is used to make pipe bowls from).Your comments would be welcomed and added to the listing(I am not very good with woods!).The box is made from SOLID panels and it is NOT veneered.It has been used as a SEWING box as the silk lining on the lid has a small pin cushion underneath to stick pins in!The silk lining in the base has deteriorated but is original and matches the lid.The wood itself is in good condition with the sorts of marks and scratchesyou would expect/commensurate with age.The lid closes squarely and evenly with no smiling at all.The whole box is decorated in a good quality ROPE style banding.PLEASE NOTE the wood has an even colour/patination all over,as in some photos there appear to be darker areas,in the flesh the colour is even.It does have an UNENGRAVED BRASS shield in the lid and even a tiny brass surround to the keyhole.The key is MISSING but these are very simple and you may be able to find a replacement if you so wish.Approx 5" wide X 2 1/2" tall.It would make a great gift or addition to your collection.PLEASE see pictures and ask any questions that you may have BEFORE you bid.MANY THANKS for looking and please see my other listings for similar interesting items.Multiple purchases are always posted together where possible with generous discounts where I am able.PLEASE note that this item is in CENTRAL FRANCE.Postal delivery from France ranges from quick to very slow especially for larger items so please be patient and allow 2-4 weeks for delivery.All my items are normally posted within a couple of days of cleared payment.
