It measures approx 7.75 inches in diameter (193 mm). It has a fascinating continuous scene of a bedouin arab on a camel in an oasis which is hand-painted. The bowl rim is in silver plate which is engraved with "EPNS ~ A & Co S" - I have looked up these silver marks and I think they are from "Asprey & Co Ltd of Sheffield" and London - the goldsmiths and silversmiths. The upper band is hand gilded over cobalt blue. It has a green italic backstamp reading "Hand Painted" and the artist's mark. It has no chips, no cracks and no crazing. The interior is immaculate (the marks in the photos are dust from storage) - it just needs a wash as it is dusty (I will wipe it before I pack it!). The gilded floral detailing on the cobalt blue upper body is rubbed in places from age and use. The EPNS silver band has some plate loss - it will clean up quite well with a polish. A rare and beautiful item. I am sorting through ‘tons’ of militaria, Royal memorabilia and collectibles to sell on eBay, so please add me to your favourite sellers or check back often to see my new listings. I will be selling many rare items from my extensive collection of Royal Yacht Britannia and Royal Navy memorabilia over the coming weeks and months. Thanks for looking, good luck and Happy Bidding! |
