AFRICAN AMERICAN quilts are so often FABULOUS ABSTRACT pieces, created to be functional, but in the creating they turned into a WORK OF ART! Using scraps from feedsacks, old clothes, whatever she had on hand, the maker started with no plan, but using her God-given artistic talent and a sense of the beautiful in her soul, she gradually added pieces until they formed what we now call a masterpiece.

As this artist worked, she remembered her traditions, using a dominance of strips and a variety of sizes, throwing in bright and contrasting colors, working in offset designs to confuse any evil spirits that might be lurking.

Often these quilts can be found with long, primitive quilting stitches or hand tied with string, an activity the children often participated in. Don't be fooled into thinking that only the primitive and/or scrappy improvisational quilts are African American, as some of their quilts have meticulous and tiny stitching and were made in traditional patterns.

FEATURES:  This is a MOST SPECTACULAR quilt done in a fabulous pattern, made with feedsack, novelty prints, and other cotton from the scrap bag!  It's all cotton, thin & lightweight, heavily quilted with primitive stitching. I don't believe this has ever been used or washed, it's very clean and crisp!  This is a SHOW STOPPER DISPLAY QUILT and it's in EXCELLENT, CLEAN CONDITION!
