This is a rare stunning antique French treenware salt or pepper pot.





Dating from around 1870 it is in excellent original condition apart from the screw top where someone has got a little impatient trying to undo it at some point.

Measuring approx 6" tall it has the most gorgeous honest patina and is silkily tactile. Other than the aforementioned damage there is little else of note and much of what you see are natural faults in the wood.

The bottom unscrews to put salt or pepper into the body and the top unscrews to reveal the holes for the shaker. We have seen these before but never with the top stopper in place so I can forgive the damage to this piece as usually they aren't there at all.

The stopper would have served to keep the condiment dry and stop spillages.
