STUNNING ANTIQUE GERMAN PORCELAIN GILT ENAMEL BOX 1800  

A superb antique German (?) porcelain trinket box; with gilt fittings and hinged lid. The lid set with a fabulously enamelled panel depicting three classical maidens coming across a bow and quiver of arrows, with a cherub looking on; and to the interior a cherub being offered / tempted by fruit by a semi-nude maiden in a copse. The main body of the box is beautifully gilded to the interior, the exterior with gilt decoration on burgundy and pale blue grounds including images of birds on water.

Although damaged this is still a superb box, well worth restoring!

CONDITION: All original and very good. Top panel cracked - please see pics. Some wear to gilt commensurate with age.

DEFECTS: None.

DATE/MARKS: Around 1800. Not marked.

DIMENSIONS: 3 ¼ x 2 ¾ inches (1 inch = 25.4 mm). To give an impression of scale, the coin is 19 mm or ¾ of an inch diameter.

WEIGHT: Approx. 159.1 grams.
