FOLKESTONE (Prima Pottery)

Marcus Goldberger

Offered here is a lovely item of signed studio / art pottery. This small money box Hedgehog has been handcrafted from red earthenware. The exterior is lightly ridged and the two tone brown glaze follows this effect.

It measures approximately 7cm (2½”) in height and 8.5cm (3½”) from nose to tail.

The slot for money is on his back – although there is no “bung” to remove the money – one could revert to ones childhood – when a blunt knife was used to ‘jiggle’ the money out !!

It is signed to the base “MARC” with “PP” in a faded shield and an impressed “FOLKESTONE”. 

The signed “MARC” represents Marcus Goldberger. 

He established the PRIMA POTTERY in the port of Folkestone in 1967 – where he continued to work until retirement in 1990.

 MARCUS’ very distinctive work is highly sought after by collector’s of studio / art pottery.
