AYLESFORD POTTERY
Cane Handled Tea Pot.
Offered here is this wonderful example of studio pottery from The Friary at Aylesford, Kent.
The Tea Pot is made from fawn coloured clay – which has then been glazed in a dark olive green/brown mottled imitation crackle glaze. The cane handle is fed through two lugs on the shoulder of the teapot.
Impressed mark within a circle on the base 'The Friars Aylesford England'.
It measures approximately 11cm (4½”) in height (excluding the handle) and 21.5cm (8½”) across the pot to the rim of the spout.
The original cane handle is still in situ. And is in good condition.
The base of the lid, rim and base of the teapot are unglazed.
In very good condition – there is a small (4x1mm) chip to the rim but this is the only damage that I can see.
A really beautiful item – and fantastic to display !
Aylesford is said to be the oldest village in England.
David Leach set up the Aylesford Priory Pottery for the White Friars. He stayed for a year, teaching pottery to the monks, and then handed over to Colin Pearson
