5ml (5ccm) genuine Studer capstan oil (Studer oil) ISOFLEX PDP65 (PDP 65)

Comes in an amber glass bottle with handy dropper cap. Studer specified capstan oil for all pre-1988 (sintered bearing) Studer and Revox reel-to-reel tape recorder capstan bearings.

This is also an excellent formulation for most other makes of vintage tape recorder capstans with sintered bearings.

The Studer A80 manual advises one drop per year on the A80 capstan (5ml bottle contains +-100 drops).
Relevant models (as stated by Studer) include, among others: G36, A77, B77, A80, A807, A812, A816, pre-1988 A820.
Please check your manual.

Exactly the same oil supplied by Studer as part number: 20.020.401.04.

Studer have this available only in 50ml units, at 75 Euros each.

The manufacturer also states:

Synthetic long-term oil.
Good viscosity-temperature characteristics
Resistant to ageing and oxidation.
Good corrosion protection.
Made in Germany

Constant OY68 is sometimes sold as a substitute for Studer capstan lubrication but the manufacturer advises not to mix the oils.

Although people have done it, Studer also recommend not mixing oils if you want the capstan to last its full life and stay in spec.
NB For Studer capstans: If the Capstan motor has a red label it's a post 1988 capstan which uses Constant GLY 2100 liquid grease. These versions can find their way on to the more modern of the pre-1988 Studer tape recorders such as the A800.
