Cecil Stuart Tresilian was born in Bristol, and studied at the Regent Street School of Art and the RoyalCollege of Art. He taught for a time at Bristol, where his students included Charles Keeping. During the First World War he was a prisoner of war and the drawings he made of his German POW camp are now exhibited in the ImperialWarMuseum. He was a ‘brother’ of the Art Workers' Guild and Master of the Guild in 1960 and was also a member of SGA and its President from 1962-5. In the 1930's and early 1940's, Tresilian provided illustrations to many magazines, including The Wide World Magazine, Nash’s Pall Mall Magazine, Zoo, The Passing Show and The Wide World Magazine but it is for his book illustrations that he will best be remembered. In addition to Kipling’s ‘Jungle Book’ stories, Tresilion was also the illustrator of Enid Blyton’s series of ‘Adventure’ books (The Castle of Adventure, etc) and he also illustrated some of the Biggles books by Capt.
