Seed and bean sprouts are highly nutritious, easy and quick to grow. You can sprout seeds all year round, and they make the perfect addition to salads, stir fries or sandwiches. Sprouts are packed full of vitamins, and minerals.
Green pea sprouts are rich in vitamins (B, A, C, D, E) and mineral salts (Fe, K, P, Ca, Mg, Zn).
They are particularly rich in calcium and iron, provide all the essential aminoacids and a high level of protein (20 -25%). They are a very nutritious food suitable against anemia.
A required amount of the peas should be soaked in water overnight. The next day they can be spread out in a suitable container for sprouting such as the Geo 3 Tier sprouter, (also available through us at funkyflora). Keep at room temperature but away from light. Rinse the seeds twice daily until they are completely germinated (which occurs in 2 -3 days). At each rinsing, try the sprouts to find your favourite time for harvesting. They can be used immediately or kept dry and refrigerated for 1 to 2 weeks. Before consumption, steam the green pea sprouts to soften them.
