On offer is the beautifully formed figure grouping of a sea serpent, sometimes called a dragon or dragon serpent or Loch Ness monster. This Baccarat figure was given to me by a client in the late 1990s. It's my understanding that it was bought from a jewelry store that sold luxury glass collectibles. The grouping has been stored in its box with the original item-specific-shaped and foam-padded interior since it was given me. The glass grouping is, therefore, in like-new condition, and the box has only minor rubbing on its corners and on the outer edge of its rim.
As far as I can determine, the grouping does not appear in the current Baccarat online catalogue, but you might want to check this.
DESCRIPTION OF THE GROUPING:
There are four (4) pieces in the grouping, representing the head, two body parts, and the tail. The effect, when the grouping is lined up and/or arranged, is of a sea serpent partly submerged in water. The grouping is fitted in a custom foam padding inside the scrumptious red Baccarat box. The dimensions are as follows: (1) The red box, with the lid in place, measures 12" wide by 8-1/4" high by 3-7/16" deep. (2) The foam pad that sits loosely inside the lid, on top of the fitted figures to protect them, measures 11-3/4" by 7-3/4" by 6/8" deep. (3) The head of the serpent is 4" at its tallest point and 1-1/2" wide at its widest. (4) The second segment (serpent body part) is 3-1/2" wide at the widest point and 1-3/4" at the highest. (5) The third segment (a second serpent body part) is also 3-1/2" wide at the widest point and 1-3/4" at the highest. (6) The tail of the serpent measures 2-3/4" tall at the tallest point and 1-1/8" wide at the widest. These measurements are on the conservative side, as there is some subjectivity involved in where to measure and what to include.
THE MARKS:
All four of the pieces have the round Baccarat stamped hallmark on the bottom. The serpent's head has the Baccarat signature near its baseline. The white Baccarat signature appears on the lower right corner of the top of the red box.
THE PHOTOGRAPHS:
Glass is extremely difficult to photograph in terms of getting a realistic record shot, especially a glass grouping like this one with several pieces. We tried several different approaches. Check out the photographs to see (1) the grouping shot on a solid, dark surface, lit from the side, in a variety of arrangements; (2) the grouping shot on glass, lit from below, which provides an idea for possible display as it shows how nicely the Baccarat glass reflects and interacts with the glass surface on which its sits; (3) the individual pieces; (4) the head of the serpent showing the Baccarat signature; (5) the serpent in its fitted box; and (6) the exterior of the box. All of the photographs are captioned, providing photo information and piece measurements.
PACKING AND SHIPPING:
The Baccarat box will be contained within a second box for shipping with ample padding. Shipping by insured USPS Priority Mail is free within the United States. There is a charge for International shipping that eBay will calculate according to shipping destination.
PLEASE ASK ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE BIDDING:
I'll be glad to ask any questions you may have. Please ask questions before bidding, as there will be no returns save for egregious misrepresenation as to nature of item or its condition. Thanks for your cooperation!
THIS IS A GORGEOUS GROUPING, EXCELLENT FOR YOUR OWN COLLECTION OR FOR THAT OF A DISCRIMINATING FRIEND!
