REVIEWWhen a list of credited instruments reads: esraj, sitar, tamboura, surmundal, cello, bansuri flutes, clarinet, and tabla, you know to prepare yourself for something different. This is akin to spending an hour in an extremely upmarket Indian restaurant that has a fair sized orchestra playing alongside the owner's friends. The delightful clash of the two sounds begins with "Prelude/Opening", and they continue to meet head on with small interludes concentrating on one or the other. The buttock-wobbling sitar band moments include "Rush Hour", "Chalk Rag" and "Lizard Tail". The less interesting traditional Western pieces "The Ledger" are nonetheless demonstrative of a talent for melody. Even more refreshing than the stylistic groupings is the fact that these melodies aren't over-used. They float in and out just like that gorgeous bansuri flute, and make you wonder if perhaps there's something special about the name Goldsmith when it comes to film scoring. Paul Tonks TRACKLISTING1.
