SOUND SIRENS

Before the invention of radar a system of 'sound mirrors' was built along this coast. They acted as an early warning system against incoming enemy aircraft. Essentially great big concrete ear trumpets. Their remains can still be seen at Greatstone and Hythe.

THIS IS A DIGITAL IMAGE OF AN ORIGINAL PAINTING
