Smiths Astral Bulkhead/Marine clock.

THE CASE - Has four mounting holes on the backplate, and the bezel and backplate ring are of brass with a centre section of steel. The clock was originally finished in a dark metallic gold colour, but as it was in such bad condition, I decided to remove the painted covering and polish both the brass and steel sections then cold lacquer them to retain their lustre. The original colour is still on the backplate. It is in generally good condition with only a couple of minor creases in the centre steel section and with some slightly darker patches under the lacquer, neither of which detract. The glass is unmarked.

THE DIAL - is enamel on metal, and has nicely crazed over the years, with some chipping to the edges of the keyhole, all of which I would expect to see, as this is the character of the clock. The hands are black and I have put a new seconds hand on as the original was missing.

THE MOVEMENT -, I have dismantled, checked, cleaned, oiled, and fitted a new quality jewelled lever Swiss platform escapement, so is guaranteed to be in working order and to run for 8 days from a full wind. It keeps good time and the index is set to the slow side, so allows plenty of future adjustment.

SIZE - Backplate diameter 225mm ( 8 7/8 inches) diameter x 100mm ( 4 inches) high x 195mm ( 7 ¾ inches) bezel diameter.

REMARKS - The clock is generally in very good condition for its years, and has been fully overhauled so is guaranteed to be in working order and as described. A new key is supplied
