This lens has been fully tested, carefully cleaned and serviced and is in full working condition. Although almost 40 years old and this lens is still in superb optical and mechanical condition. No fungus or hazing. The glass is clear and scratch free! The barrel and mount are pristine!

This 55mm lens offers a super fast f/1.8 maximum aperture. If using this lens on a APS size DSLR it will produce an angle-of-view approximately equivalent to a focal length of 85mm whilst the maximum aperture remains at f/1.8, making it a high quality fully functional 'standard/telephoto' lens on the digital format. This lens is very very sharp, the bokeh is exceptional and offers a superb performance under all conditions with excellent resolution, sharpness, contrast and control of flare, even compared with Leica standards. As with all Takumars, build quality is excellent nothing is loose on the lens. It is very compact so will go with you anywhere. The quality of your images when taken with this lens may surprise you especially if compared to images taken with the majority of consumer/prosumer zoom lenses.

This lens is one of the best prime M42 lenses (it's still a full frame!) made by Asahi Pentax (Takumar). The great thing about m42 lenses is that they mostly came in primes and in a full range from 16mm right up to 1000mm, and in about any conceivable focal length in between. Primes always give the best results at that specific focal length, and are much better performers than the multi focal length lenses, like a 70-300, 24-70 etc. The M42 mount for Pentax, Zenit, Praktica, etc can be adapted (in manual aperture setting mode and manual focus) to fit Canon EOS/FD, Nikon Ai/AF, Minolta/Sony or Olympus 4/3 bodies, Pentax, etc

Asahi Opt. Co have always produced fantastic lenses and this is one of the best. SMC stands for Super-Multi-Coated which it is a lens coating developed by Asahi that reduces flare, improves contrast and allows more light to reach the film or digital sensor, resulting in better images. Pentax claims that SMC is "a remarkable seven-layer lens coating process that cuts the reflection ratio down to just 0.2% per lens surface. The result is a dramatic improvement in both color fidelity and brightness and the elimination of flare and ghost images."

CONDITION OF THE LENS:
Optically in excellent condition - 9 out of 10
The optics are clear internally without fungus, dust or hazing. The surfaces of the front and rear elements are unmarked with no scratches. This lens does not suffer from the well know yellowing as some Takumar lenses. It is in almost perfect optical condition.

Mechanically in excellent condition - 9.5 out of 10
The lens is stopping down very positively without any oil or previous wear on the aperture blades. Its is focusing smoothly without stiffness or slackness in the movement. All electrical contacts are fully operational.

Cosmetically in great condition - 9 out of 10
Cosmetically it is displaying signs of having had only light and careful previous use and is looking fairly close to new. All barrel markings are clear and bright. Please refer to pictures for confirmation of its cosmetic condition.
