SHOCKS FOR THE CHALET SCHOOL by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer (part of the Chalet School Series). Published by W & R Chambers Ltd. FIRST EDITION. 1952. The second Christmas term spent by the Chalet School on the island of St Briavel began with a shock administered by Miss Stewart, formerly history mistress, now married and living near Sydney. Others followed in rapid succession - from Jo Maynard, still in Canada; from Elfie Woodward, special friend of Bride Bettany; from Miss O'Ryan; from a far-away owner of The Big House where the Chalet School is now domiciled. In fact, it was a term of shocks. But the Chalet School has weathered worse in its time and it comes through all the many surprises intact and triumphant. A classic children's book of the 1950s. Blue cloth boards with black lettering on spine. The front and rear boards are in good condition but have a few marks. The spine is intact and firm. The internal pages are intact and in good condition. A small amount of foxing on page edges and inside front page. The dustjacket has some tears and creases. Clipped.
