He has matted hair, which holds the flowing Ganges river and a crescent moon. A serpent coiled around his neck, a trident in one hand and ashes all over his body. The Goddess Ganja appears just above his head.
Shiva is depicted as white, with a dark-blue throat (because he drank the poison to save the world), he has several arms and is Tri-Netra (three-eyed).

Shiva is called the Destroyer, but also possesses the aspect of regeneration. Shiva is the source of fertility in all living beings. Yogas see Shiva as representative of the death of material desires and release from the cycle of birth and death. His consort is Parvati (Devi).
