Shimenawa(Shinto Rope) are lengths of braided rice straw rope.
They are believed to act as a ward against evil spirits and sickness.

It marks the boundary to something sacred,
can be found on torii gates, before the altar, around sacred trees and stones, sacred landmarks.

For the New Year celebrations,
you may see at entrance of common houses in Japan.

Size- approx.34" long x 2" dia.
New condition.
