the turnER story bringing the NEWS to Sheffield BY Keith FARNSWORTH It all started in the spring of 1891 when Harry Turner, the former left luggage porter who had served an 'apprenticeship' as an assistant with two Sheffield newsagents set himself up in business in Bank Street. This is the story of the firm's first 100 years, spanning for generations of the Turner family across an eventful century of change and challenge, trials and triumphs. The Turner story is essentially the study of a famous company, but in tracing the roots of the family's links, it is also a social history; and in setting the firm's progress within the context of the history of newspapers and newsagents, local and national , it makes an important contribution to the literature of an industry which has altered almost beyond recognition since Harry Turner began the tradition of delivering the news Sheffield.
Very well illustrated.
