SCOTTISH ART DECO VINTAGE ANTELOPE FEET BOOKENDS/c1930
Mmmm......well, I think the pictures tell the story here really. Basically, that is, that this is a pair of antelope feet that have at some point or other been made into a pair of bookends by having been mounted on to L-shaped blocks of wood, which I think is mahogany. They actually came in a set of items which are almost identical in that they are all made out of antelope feet, the rest being a pair of candlesticks and a bell. The candlesticks, which we also have on sale on the auction this week, have a brass mount that says: Squire Ruack (or Ruach), 2,349 Ft., Gruinard, 17.9.36, J.W.D. Gruinard is actually a very tiny island off the coast of Scotland, and the only information I could find about it was the following:- ("British scientists tested anthrax on a tiny Scottish island in 1942, leading to it remaining out-of-bounds for almost 50 years. ... The island, Gruinard, just off the mainland, in Gruinard Bay, half way between Ullapool and Gairloch"). So, it seems that these were made into candlesticks and bookends by someone who actually shot the poor creature at 2.349ft up in the mountains in Scotland before the island became quarantined for 50 years, due to scientists messing about with the environment . Fascinating history really, for such a small place. The bookends are in very good condition, and quite heavy, and the top part has been finished off with an oval of mahogany, the same as the plinth.
They are 10ins (25.5cm) high, 6.5ins (16.5cm) deep and 4.5ins (12cm) wide.

At Frockabilia / EurobiliaUK.Antiques we have one simple aim; to sell good quality antique pieces at competitive prices. .
We are located near Hampstead Heath in Central London; we sell small to medium sized pieces of period furniture and collectables, mostly items that we consider to be useful in the home as well as decorative. We hope that if we love them, then so will you. They range from the Georgian, Regency, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Edwardian and Art Deco periods. .
Most of our items are Antiques and minor blemishes are normal due to age (Some items are over 100 years old, so perfection is impossible). All auction descriptions are honest, accurate, detailed and have many pictures, if the item has a flaw we try to show a picture so you will know exactly what you are bidding on. But please remember that there is normal wear and tear, and it is not always possible to show that. We take a great deal of trouble over transporting our items, whether they are large or small. The large pieces of furniture, which go by road, are carefully handled by expert delivery drivers and the smaller pieces are packed very carefully, with lots of packing materials - the more fragile they are, the more packing and care they receive.
