Here we have a 1882 SYDNEY MINT SHIELD BACK SOVEREIGN.

Queen Victoria's Young head can be seen on the obverse of the coin. A shield can be seen on the reverse (A small 'S' below the wreath indicates the sovereign was minted at the Sydney mint, Australia).

Since 1817 all sovereigns have been struck in 22 carat gold to a weight of 7.98 grammes, and with a diameter of approximately 22 millimetres.
