Summary
This is a pre-painted and pre-assembled model of a Russian T-80U main battle tank (MBT). It is pre-painted in a desert camouflage (sandy yellow) paint scheme. The model also includes an optional turret mounted machine gun (supplied on a plastic sprue), it can be cut-off and either clipped or glued in place on the turret.

These particular 1/144th scale models are very accurately moulded in dense plastic resin and painted with a very high level fine detailing.

This is one model from a collection of 21 available from the Takara World Tank Museum Volume 06 (released in 2004). This volume of models featured post World War II AFVs (and one helicopter); and has now been discontinued.

The model is brand new and individually sealed in it's original plastic tray and boxed. The box has been carefully opened (from the bottom - top seal intact) in order to identify which model it is, but otherwise the box is in brand new condition.

Please Note - The models were sold randomly packed in Japan, therefore the box must be opened to discover which model of a possible 21 is inside.

Brief History of the T-80U
The T-80U main battle tank (T-80 "U" for uluchsheniye meaning "improvement") was designed and manufactured in the former Soviet Union from 1985 onwards. The T-80 was the first production tank to be equipped with a gas turbine engine for main propulsion. The GTD-1250 gas turbine can use jet fuels as well as diesel and low-octane gasoline, it has good dynamic stability, service life, and reliability. The T-80U is protected by a new generation of explosive reactive armour called Kontakt-5, integrated into the design of the turret and hull.

The T-80 and its variants are in service in Belarus, Cyprus, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, South Korea, and Ukraine. The T-80 was intended as a land warfare superiority main battle tank with the most likely adversary the M1 Abrams and NATO Leopard 2.
