This is a self-instructional, DIY, textbook, serving as an introduction to the Russian language.It is based on skills of understanding rather than speaking Russian: many of the exercises are of the problem-solving type, requiring the student to extract information from Russian sources, both oral and visual. By following the course carefully, one should finish up being in the position to survive linguistically in Russia.The book was written to accompany the eponymous  BBC TV programme.

Book from a private collection in very good condition, though obviously used. Printed paperback, with an intact binding, and all illustrations seem present. Front cover and early pages somewhat dog-eared, but the text is clean and eminently usable.
