Description: An exquisite seascape, oil on artist's canvas, signed "Rubens Seagor", and dated 1881 and framed - approx 59 X 29 inches (149.86 X 73.66cm). This is an exquisite English School oil dating from the Victorian period. The seascape depicts a wonderful portrait of cliffs and seagulls and crashing waves, full of drama and atmosphere. Above is a classic sunburst sky, the sun's rays glowing through the cloudes. To t he right the rugged jagged cliffs stand tall, with seagulls swooping into the sea's spray. A beautiful dramatic inspiring painting, with fabulous use of light reflecting the energy and power of this wonderful coastline. A beautiful large and impressive piece of 19th Century art. The painting is one of a pair that we have for sale. A beautifully executed painting - a classic scene. The work is signed and dated lower right - "Rubens Seagor", 1881.
Date: 1881
Framing: Contemporary ovolo moulded Gesso work. Finish: Gilt. The oil is mounted on a stretcher.
Condition: The painting is set behind glass. There is one old repair (see photo) to the back at the bottom right hand corner near the signature, otherwise the painting retains good condition for its age. The frame has been re-gilded at some period.
