Twenty Five Years of Royal Variety at the London Palladium 1930-1973, double-LP, Pye Records RVP 25.

This is an interesting 1970s double-LP which at first glance has rather an odd title. It is called Twenty Five Years of Royal Variety at the London Palladium 1930-1973. Which obviously is a time-span of 43 years, not 25. But I think what it refers to is the actual recordings on the LP date from 1958 to 1973 and Bernard Delfont (who has written the introduction) has been President of the Variety Artistes’ Benevolent Fund since 1958. The two records contain songs by many acts who have appeared at the Royal Variety Show. They are not the recordings from the shows but some have been re-processed for Stereo, and as well as the songs the record also features commentary by Max Bygraves. Also included in the three-way fold-out sleeve is a 11” x 11” glossy 24-page booklet that has a great history of the Royal Variety Shows, including loads of photos of famous (and not so famous any more) stars from the 1930s – 1970s. The records are in Near Mint condition and the cover / booklet are both EX.
