ROYAL TUDOR DISPLAY PLATE WITH KITCHEN PRAYER BY KLARA MUNKES

 

This lovely ironstone plate is stamped “Royal Tudor Ware by Barker Bros. Stoke-on-Trent England” with  a George VI crown within a Tudor rose on the base.  It measures 6¾” in diameter.  The Kitchen Prayer is inscribed on the front of the plate and reads as follows, and is signed by Klara Munkes

"Lord of pots and pans and things, since I've not time to be
A saint by doing lovely things or watching late with Thee
Or dreaming in the dawn light or storming Heaven's gates,
Make me a saint by getting meals and washing up the plates.
Although I must have Martha's hands, I have a Mary mind
And when I black the boots and shoes, Thy sandals, Lord, I find.
I think of how they trod the earth, what time I scrub the floor.
Accept this meditation Lord, I haven't time for more"


This is a colourful and decorative plate with a gilt rim.  There is a little fading around the rim and on the front, and a few small marks on the underside which I think could have been as a result of displaying this plate.  Overall, considering its age, it’s in good condition.
