Royal Observer Corps Sterling silver and enameled lapel badge. Measuring 23mm diameter (40mm from top to bottom) complete with pin and clasp. The badge is hallmarked Birmingham 1963. It would have been used by serving members, former members or supporters of the corps (not for uniform)
The Royal Observer Corps was responsible for spotting enemy aircraft in WW1 & WW2. Latterly they trained and exercised through the 1970's, 1980' s and early 1990's in cold war skills including Nuclear, biological and chemical warfare detection, monitoring and reporting.
The corps was dis-established in 1995 after a distinguished period of service in civil defence.
