Full title: The Very Best Of Roy Wood: Through The Years.This collection includes Wood's work with The Move, ELO and Wizzard.For most of his career, which began in Birmingham in the mid-'60s with the group who became The Move, Roy Wood has recorded for various offshoots of the EMI label. Yet, bizarrely, it wasn't until 2000 that someone thought to trace Wood's entire artistic history on one CD. Combining tracks from The Move, the Electric Light Orchestra, Wizzard, and Wood's classic solo albums BOULDERS and MUSTARD, THE VERY BEST OF ROY WOOD: THROUGH THE YEARS is the best possible introduction of one of pop music's most brilliantly eccentric geniuses. The Move's four tracks, including the singles "California Man" and "Tonight," are typically excellent, and ELO's "10538 Overture," though a Jeff Lynne composition, is the song which most exemplifies Wood's contribution to that group, which he founded and left after their debut. The Wizzard and solo tracks are whimsical art-glam-pop as weird and wonderful as anything from the era.
