Frequenz is a budget label devoted to historic performances of opera, mostly Italian. The format is 2 or 3 CDs in a case with no booklet or libretto. The text on the inserts is in Italian only. The performances are usually excellent and feature artists such as Pavarotti, Domingo, Renata Tebaldi, Nicolai Chiaurov, Renata Scotto, Carlo Bergonzi, Birgit Nilsson, Karl Bohm, Riccardo Muti and Carlo Maria Guilini. Some of the recordings were made live at major opera houses such as Covent Garden, Bayreuth and La Scala.
