This type of metallic, jacquard  trim is traditionally woven in the Indian city of Benares. Called "zari" or "Banarsi brocade," it’s used to trim the most luxurious saris.

This piece is brand new, not "vintage."  In other words, it's not used, damaged, or dirty.

This is a fabric, not ribbon, border; so the edges are rough.  This means that you have to turn the edges under before stitching it onto something; but the remarkable richness of this piece makes it well worth the effort.
