Description: An excellent portrait oil on artist's canvas, signed "R. Van Meerbeeck" and dating circa late 20th Century. Framed - approx 37 X 32 inches (93.98 X 81.28cm).
This is an excellent Belgian School oil dating from the late 20th Century period. The portrait depicts a stunning study of a beautiful elegant woman upon a mottled blue grey ground. The artist has wonderful use of light and shade, the young woman with large deep brown eyes, gazing directly at the viewer, having a perfect complexion, her short dark brown hair swept from her face. She wears pearl earrings and a pearl necklace and an elegant white satin dress. A very fine portrait indeed from a prolific artist from the 20th Century. The portrait is possibly of Emirate Royalty, the painting having an Abu Dhabie framing gallery label verso. The work is signed "R. Van Meerbeeck" . |
Date: The oil probably dates to around late 20th Century. |
Artist Biography:
| Roland Van Meerbeeck (Belgian - 20thC) - Moved to UAE and lives in Abu Dhabie - Van Meerbeeck's journey began in Brussels, where he was born during one of his parents holidays back home; his father worked for a railway company in Leopoldville, in the Belgian Congo. He has travelled down powerful rivers on handmade rafts and negotiated his way through all manner of civil wars. He painted watercolours in the jungles of the Congo, oil scenes of little towns in Belgium and France and, over time, the portraits of luminaries from Houston to Cape Town to Abu Dhabi. Now one of the most prolific portrait artists of the Emirates Royal Family. | |
